Why a Green Wave in Gunnison?
Gunnison Waves is working to bring a fast green wave to our community, following the success of similar projects across the United States. But we need your support to show local authorities that we mean business.
Project Details
Gunnison Waves has exhausted every effort to get a new wave built in the Gunnison Whitewater Park for the past five years. But the reality is the park should never have been built where it is today. County officials regret building the park next to the airport due to the restrictions imposed by the Runway Protection Zone that is located between 1st Wave and 2nd Wave. The RPZ states that no more than 50 people can be in the RPZ. This restriction has caused Gunnison County to reject the idea of a Green Wave inside the park.
Gunnison Waves has been strategizing with County officials and the City of Gunnison to come up with an area of the Gunnison River near or in the City of Gunnison to build a Green Wave. There are a few great locations in mind but this is where you come in. Without funding river surfers are just another user group asking for more. We need you to pledge whatever you think you can swing to build a Green Wave.
